964 Turbo 3.6
Values
I have been keeping a close watch on the RHD market for several years now. There has been a gradual increase in the values as more people come to realise the quality of the 964 series. Many experts including Mark Sumpter of Paragon Porsche have special praise for the 3.6 turbo and see it as still undervalued, especially in the light of the high prices being paid for the 964 RS.
During 2008 UK prices have ranged from £20K for a private car needing some work, to £50K for a fully warranted example form a top dealer.
2009 will be an interesting year with the current economic crisis possibly depressing prices. Still, compared to the losses sustained by more mainstream Porsches the 3.6 turbos should prove fairly depreciation proof.
If you are in the market to buy, the usual advice is to always get a PPI from a mechanic who knows air-cooled turbos well. (Official Porsche Centres may well have little experience here).
Update 2011
Values have continued to appreciate, particularly for low mileage examples with good history. £40-50K is now a reasonable entry level for private sales. Dealers may ask a lot more depending on how speculative they are!
